New Nikon Lenses Available for Pre-Order
Nikon announced two new lenses this week, the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR and the AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED.
Nikon’s new 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR can claim all sorts of impressive numbers: with a focal length going up to 1500mm (with the included teleconverter and on a DX mount) and weighing in at a little over 10 pounds it is not a lens to mess around with. Although at 18.2″ it isn’t as long as one might expect, which is why I’m excited about the VR: I can actually imagine hand-holding this lens, at least for short periods of time (I’m not the strongest pea in the pod to be honest). If you find the $17,899.95 price a hair out of reach, so to speak, stay tuned to the blog and we’ll let you know when we’re carrying this in our rental departments.
On the other end of the spectrum is a lens I can easily see becoming the go-to-lens for everyone picking up a D600 these days: the AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lives comfortably at the intersections of quality, price, and functionality. The majority of my images fall into these focal lengths, and I anticipate this lens will be appealing to all the shooters out there that are finding 24mm is great but just not quite wide enough. I am very excited to try this guy out when we get them in.
