Photo of the Week 26 March 2013
Congratulations to this week’s Photo of the Week winner Lora Abbey from California.
Title: “Carrillo Peacock”
Photographer: Lora Abbey
We had the chance to ask Lora a few questions about her beautiful image. To find out more about this peacock and Lora’s photography and photography inspiration see her responses below:
What’s the story behind this image — what made you want to make it and how did you go about capturing it?
This image was taken not far from where I live at Leo Carillo Ranch Historic Park. It is a beautiful ranch that is located in Carlsbad, CA. It is one of my favorite places to take photo’s as it has old white adobe ranch buildings with beautiful old blue wooden doors on them. There are beautiful gardens and a large flock of peacocks (including an all white one) that live at the ranch. Since I go often I know when and where the birds hang out. I love to go in the morning as they are all in the same place sunning themselves. This time of year the males are growing their beautiful feathers and like to show them off to the hens. I just happened to catch this male putting on a show in front of a big blue barn door.
What kind of photography do you enjoy most?
I am an amateur photographer who enjoys all types of photography including landscape, nature, macro, and sports.
Who are some of your favorite photographers and artists that you draw inspiration from?
My favorite photographer is my father, Robert Baker. Other photographers I draw inspiration from are Dewitt Jones, Kimberly Minor, and Renata Amazones.
