Photo of the Week 3 December 2013
Congratulations to Steve Schlesinger from San Diego, California for his Photo of the Week winning image “Ice at Yellowstone” of a surreal snowscape captured with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 with 45-200mm zoom lens. Steve captured this image in February of 2013 while visiting Yellowstone National Park. It was a brisk 10° F the day Steve traveled to Yellowstone. While there walking along one of the boardwalks Steve came across the subject in the photograph. There was a lot of fog emerging off of the hot spring that day and the wind blew the fog blew in all directions. At times, the fog was so dense it completely obscured the object in the photo, and at other times the subject was surrounded with a foggy background creating a mysterious effect as seen in the final photograph. The image was captured with natural light and a natural foggy background. There was minimal enhancement post production to add contrast and enhance the natural effects of the light, snow and fog. Steve Schlesinger enjoys outdoor, landscape and architectural photography and is inspired by photographic greats like Ansel Adams.
