What was this shot with?
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon 12-24 f/4 G ED Dx
Speed: 1/125 sec.
What was this image taken for? (Personal, event, etc.)
This image was taken for my personal pursuit of fine art photography.
Can you tell us a little about the process of how you came across this shot? Did you plan it out? Were you walking and saw an opportunity?
This was complete serendipity. I believe infrared is interesting since you can never be sure of what you’ll get. This scene looked rather ordinary in visible light but the infrared revealed fascinating details, invisible to the naked eye.
Why did you choose to process the image this way?
Generally, I convert my infrared shots to monochrome but in this example I felt a small amount of color, actually false infrared color, enhanced the overall effect and brought out more detail.
Who are some photographers that inspire you?
What type of photography do you enjoy most for personal and professional projects?
The types of photography I enjoy most tend to vary based on current inspiration including: portraiture, nudes, landscapes and story telling.
What inspires your photography?
My inspiration comes from many sources. I try to keep my mind and eyes open to help me find inspiration in the most unexpected places.
Is there anything else you would like to include about your personal work or this photo?
This work is done with a specially modified digital body which is only sensitive to light in the near infrared portion of the spectrum. A small amount of post-processing is required but the primary impact of the images are available right out of the camera.
A large portion of my portfolio is currently on display at the Nature Gallery at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago, IL. http://www.lcfpd.org/calendar/index.cfm?fuseaction=calendar.viewDetail&object_id=39994
