What was this image taken for? (Personal, event, etc.)
This image was taken at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in Los Angeles on August 3rd, 2013.
What was this image shot with?
Camera: Sony A77
Can you tell us a little about the process of how you came across this shot? Did you plan it out? Did you see an opportunity?
I always search for special moments at concerts and festivals. I saw a father holding his child on his shoulders and I instantly thought it would be great to capture. It was likely one of his first concerts because he was so young. If it were his first concert, that is something very special to have a visual memory of.
Why did you choose to make it black and white?
I chose to make this image black and white simply because it felt right. I never really have a specific meaning to turn a photo into black and white. I tend to use black and white for special moments.
Who are some photographers that inspire you?
I am inspired by the entire music photographer community. I have been able to meet so many concert photographers over the last few years and they always inspire me with their work.
What type of photography do you enjoy most for personal and professional projects?
I enjoy shooting concerts the most. It is what I have worked on for the last few years and I am very passionate about music. When I’m at a concert, I look for special moments between fans and the musicians they came out to see. If I can capture something special, then I feel accomplished.
What inspires your photography?
I would say that the fans inspire my photography. I tend to post a lot of my work on social networks and the fans always show their support. It keeps me going. At a concert, the fan experience is truly what I enjoy observing.
Is there anything else you would like to include about your personal work or this photo?
One award that I just received, which is my biggest accomplishment yet, was CBS LA naming me one of the best concert photographers in Los Angeles. I just received that last month. I am very humbled by it.
